When I was a kid, my parents would pack up the kids and take us to see Santa and his raindeer at Balboa Park. This year I took my own kids to do the same thing. It's a trip to be a parent and do the things my parents did. It gives me perspective into what it was like to have me. What a handful I was!

Took the kids to the snow up on The Sunrise Highway the day after Christmas. Numbskull city-slicker daddy didn't bring gloves, so I was kind of a wuss when it came to building the snowman. We had a killer mountain lunch at the Rongbranch Inn in Julian on the way home.

Had a cool Christmas with the family at my parents house. The kids scored some new stuff and played with their cousins. There was a good vibe all day that made me feel fortunate to have such opportunities in my life.

Took the kids to see the Barona Reservation Cultural Museum this weekend and hiked around in the hills outside San Diego. It was a beautiful and fun day, the kind of day that makes one glad to be alive.

Had a fun weekend enjoying the city we live in. The kids and I rode the trolley to Seaport Village for lunch and ice cream. We fed the birds by the bay and rode the merry-go-round. It is a shame that some people don't get out and do the fun things their hometown has to offer!

Had a good Thanksgiving, visiting with family and having the kids play with cousins. We all marveled over a tremendous show of thunder and lightening, but missed a camping trip due to the storm. Set up the tent in the backyard instead and had a nice campfire for telling stories and playing. It wasn't Joshua Tree, but we had fun anyway. That's what life is all about!

Had a fun weekend with the kids just goofing off around town. The highlight was lunch at the Ocean Beach Pier Cafe and kicking it in the tidepools for awhile. Having kids is the best, but it is a lot of work being nice with them jumping all over my head. I'm always glad to drop them off at school and sit at my work desk. Whew!

Went to a holloween carnival at my daughter's school and played all sorts of ring toss, bean bag, treasure chest and lollipop tree games. It started to pour rain, which didn't slow them down. My son said "Look Dad, I'm taking a shower." He was standing below the roof edge and soaked to the skin. Ahhh, the joys of parenting!

Did a bunch of client edits to promote the new Lake Forest Climbing Gym. Solid Rock Gym has been an appreciated client for years. To celebrate, I bought a PlayStation and the Tony Hawk Skateboarding game! Weeee.

Had a bonus weekend with the kids. We went to a picnic and had face painting, a magic show and lots of BBQ food. Then we watched "Final Fantasy" at our best friend's house. Lots of kid play there too. The highlight was when we went to the Tierrasanta Skatepark. The kids thought it was pretty cool to see their old dad carving, grinding and sliding all over the bowls and banks... Life is soooo good!

Danced with the scrolls during Simcha Torah at the shul. This festive holiday comes at the end of the high holy days including Rosh Hashanna, Yom Kippur, Succot, and Shemini Atzeret. On Simcha Torah, we read the last and first portions of the Torah. This reminds us that life is a cycle gently repeating year after year...

It's the Jewish High Holy Days right now. Last weekend was Rosh Hashannah and Yom Kippur is on Monday. It is an awesome time of repentance and forgivness. The synagogue services are long and complicated, but there is a real sense of communal hope that life can get better and be even more fulfilling this year than was the last.

Went skateboarding at a local skatepark this weekend and had some kids make fun of my "old school" board and style. It's been 20 years since I skated a park, so it was a little shaky. Pulled off some carves, grinds and wheelers. Called it quits when I beefed doing a rock-and-roll. What fun!

Had a birthday (42) and went to dinner with the kids, in-laws, and my parents. There was a great potential for wierdness, but it turned out fine. During the weekend the whole family had a nice pool party and sang me the tune over brownies. I was able to stay cool the whole day, which is sometimes hard for me with family stuff. All-in-all, I had a happy birthday this year!

My server has had a bunch of crashes lately and lost the latest version of my BLOG! I can't even begin to recreate it :( I lost my best hosting client too. Bummer...

Our CancerAnswers.com business is cranking along. We get orders almost every day!

Took the kids camping last weekend to Dos Pico Park and took a gnarly hike to the top of the mountain to check out this "little" clump of rocks to see if they were climbable. Turns out they were HUGE with scary landings. By then my son was pooped and wouldn't let me climb anyway. We tried to nap, but it was too fun. So, we went to town and got hotdogs and marshmellows for our evening campfire. Everyone had a blast and slept well in the tent.

It's been a banner entertainment week... Saw an amazing movie called "Dogtown and Z-Boys" that was based on the skateboard culture that I was a part of in the late 70's. The Z-Boys were the pinnacle of style and I modeled my whole life on them. You may not know this, but I was a SKATEBOARD CHAMPION and won all kinds of contests! It was entirely nostalgic to see those old-school heroes on the big screen; it made me want to dust off the old skate and hit the skatepark!

Saw Elvis Costello last night. What an awesome show it was!

Had a busy weekend, beginning with the holidy of Shavuot at my mother-in-laws. Went with the kids to shul and lunch in the community. Dinner at her house the following night and a party at my sister's the next day. Finished off the weekend at Chuck E. Cheese. Whew!

Had a nice weekend with the kids. I swear, they make going to work seem easy! It sounds simple enough that I took them to see their cousin's little league game, except my kids spent more time climbing trees, spilling drinks, devising tree swings and and posing (Daddy! Look at me!) until I was spent with the effort :) Swimming? That's easy too, if you don't mind giving rides with your head. Sunday was easier cuz we went to the beach, where they kinda do their own thing. All-in-all, I'm glad to be back at work!

Been plugging away at the *New Job* for a while now and it seems to be ok. There is a lot to do and I have a pretty good time doing it. New responsibilities are regularly added and the boss thinks what I do is important. A bit of drama - I have to give up my shiny new desk this week and move into my own office across the parking lot. Sounds lonely, but a grizzled webhack like me, who has spent the last decade staring at a computer screen all day, is used to that!

PGW offerred me a salary, benefits, a new computer and a new desk yesterday and I accepted. Looks like my latest two-year consulting run has come to an end, which makes me happy and sad at the same time.

- Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at 15:34:33 (PST)
Been swamped with the PGW intranet site, which gets daily updates. They have a meeting with me next Tuesday to discuss taking me on as an employee... Wish me luck!

The intranet site for PGW is booming! There are daily updates now which look like they will continue indefinately. It is good, interesting work and I am thankful to have such a client :)

Built and early version of an online client notes and offers intranet for Beachwalk Financial and also a flash intro for LA Funding... It was a good and busy week!

Made a website for my new hosting company.

The web design firm hired someone else because I was overqualified. In an attempt to change careers, I tried out for the lifeguard department and failed the 500m swim test by two minutes. Dang! Good thing I have a job!

Had a cool web design interview yesterday that seemed to go well. They will contact me monday. The suspense is compounted by the "check being in the mail" for transfering ownership of r-house.com to a New York firm for development as a real estate site.

By the way, HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope it's a good one for you and yours!

Work's going good these days. I've been doing lots of Flash work, which is pretty cool. Transferred ownership of r-house.com to the new owner today, which is kind of nostalgic and sad. For six years I used it to show my work and resume, but I don't work out of my house anymore and have redesigned my resume, so it's best to let someone else make their play rather than have it just sit... Life goes on!
